Acer Aspire As1410 Vs Ao532h

The Acer Aspire AS1410 and Acer Aspire AO532h are two small laptops, or netbooks, from Taiwanese computer manufacturer Acer Inc. Both machines were released months apart in 2009, with the AS1410 debuting first. While the AS1410 provides the more advanced features and specifications, the AO532h has the edge in portability.

Operating System, Processor and Memory

The Acer Aspire AS1410 is based on the Home Premium version of the Windows 7 operating system. The AO532h, however, runs the Starter, which ranks two notches below Home Premium as the least adorned version of Windows 7. The processor is the single-core ultra-low-voltage 1.2GHz Intel Celeron SU2300 or the more advanced 1.4GHz Core 2 Solo SU3500. The AO532h has the 1.66GHz N450, which belongs to Intel Corp.’s Atom brand, specifically designed for netbooks. Preinstalled memory is 2GB for the AS1410 and 1GB for the AO532h.

Storage and Multimedia

The Acer Aspire AS1410 and Acer Aspire One AO532h usually come with a 160GB hard drive with a rotational speed of 5,400 revolutions per minute. Some AS1410 laptops, however, have a data storage capability of 250GB instead. Also included is a 5-in-1 digital media adapter for the Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO, and xD-Picture Card flash memory formats. Regarding video and graphics capabilities, each netbook has an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator processor, with model numbers of 4500 and 3100 for the AS1410 and AO532h, respectively. Acer added a built-in Web camera and microphone on the AS1410.

Connectivity

With both machines possessing wireless networking capabilities, the built-in Wi-Fi card of the Acer Aspire AS1410 complies with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 802.11a/b/g/draft-n standards, while that of the AO532h adheres to the IEEE 802.11b/g/n protocol set. Also, while the Ethernet connection of the AO532h — used for wired networking — has a peak data transmission rate of 100 megabits per second, that of the AS1410 offers 1,000 Mbps instead. Each laptop has three USB 2.0 ports, headphone and microphone jacks, RJ-45 jack for the Ethernet, and Video Graphics Array port for an external screen display. Acer added a High Definition Multimedia Port on the AS1410.

Display, Physical Dimensions and Weight

The Acer Aspire AS1410 has an 11.6-inch widescreen with a display quality of 1,366 by 768 pixels in resolution. The Acer Aspire One AO532h has a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1,024 by 600 pixels. Each AS1410 has an 11.2-inch width, 8-inch length and 0.9-inch height, with a weight of around 3.1 lbs. The AO532h measures 10.2 inches in width, 7.3 inches in length and an inch in height, with a weight of around 2.7 lbs.
