You can use the freeware graphics program Paint.NET to apply three-dimensional effects to text. You can use your 3-D text in banners, buttons, avatars and other graphics. The software is available for download for free from multiple freeware download websites in addition to its parent site, getpaint.net. This program offers more design and editing abilities than Microsoft Paint and can be compared to commercially available software such as PhotoShop or PaintTools SAI. Paint.NET is only available for Windows machines equipped with Windows XP or newer operating systems.
1. Select the “Text” tool. Click on the canvas and type your text. Adjust the font size as desired using the pull-down menu at the top of the screen.
2. Click “Layers” on the top menu. Select “Rotate” and choose “Zoom.” On the menu that opens there will be a round gauge on the left side of the menu. Use the cursor to set the gauge to what would be approximately 2 o’clock.
3. Press “CTRL+SHIFT+D” to duplicate the layer. Select the bottom layer and press “CTRL+SHIFT+I” to invert the color of the layer. Move the text slightly below and to the left of the text on the top layer.
4. Press “CTRL+M” to merge the layers, then “CTRL+S” to save.
