Install Ati Drivers Without A Catalyst

When you install drivers for an ATI video card using the software disc included in the package, the installation software automatically installs a software product called the Catalyst Control Center. This software allows you to tweak certain settings for the video card such as anti-aliasing, which smooths the jagged edges of 3D images. If you do not use the Catalyst Control Center, then you have an extra application running and potentially slowing your computer down unnecessarily. You can download the bare display driver for your video card from ATI if you do not need the full Catalyst software package.

1. Browse to the AMD-ATI support website using the link in the “Resources” section of this article. Under “Download Drivers,” click the “Download Graphics Drivers” link.

2. Click the drop-down menu next to “Step 1,” and select “Desktop Graphics.”

3. Click the drop-down menu next to “Step 2,” and choose the series that your ATI video card is from, e.g. “Radeon 9xxx Series.”

4. Click the drop-down menu next to “Step 3,” and choose your video card model, e.g. “Radeon 9700 Series.”

5. Click the drop-down menu next to “Step 4,” and choose the version of Windows installed on your computer.

6. Click the “Display Results” button. This brings you to a screen showing the full Catalyst Software Suite and the bare driver for the video card that you selected.

7. Click the “Download” button next to “WDM Integrated Driver” and save the resulting file to the desktop.

8. Double-click the file after the download is complete, and follow the prompts onscreen to install the ATI drivers for your video card.
