The Dell Dimension 2350 is an Intel Pentium 4 or Celeron-based desktop computer manufactured during the Windows XP era. Microsoft has released two new operating systems since Dell manufactured the Dimension 2350, and you might be enticed by the features of recent operating systems such as Windows 7. You can install Windows 7 on the Dimension 2350 and experience the new features of this operating system. However, you may need to upgrade your computer first.
Dell Dimension 2350 Specifications
The Dell Dimension 2350 includes an Intel Celeron with a speed of 1.70 GHz in its minimum configuration, while the fastest processor available for the machine is an Intel Pentium 4 with a speed of 2.5 GHz. In its base configuration, the Dimension 2350 has 128 MB of RAM and an integrated Intel 3D Extreme graphics adapter. In some configurations, the computer’s optical drive may be a CD-ROM drive or burner rather than a DVD-ROM drive or burner.
Windows 7 System Requirements
Windows 7 requires a computer with a 1.0 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM. It also requires a hard drive with at least 16 GB of free space, a DVD drive for software installation and a video adapter with Windows Display Driver Model device drivers and Microsoft DirectX 9 compatibility.
Windows 7 Compatibility
The Dell Dimension 2350 can work with Windows 7. However, you may need to upgrade your computer before performing the operating system installation. Dell does not provide WDDM drivers for the Intel 3D Extreme graphics adapter, so Windows 7 may not support it. Therefore, you may need to purchase a new video card. In addition, you will need to install a DVD drive to install the software and must upgrade the RAM in your computer to the maximum supported amount of 1 GB.
The Dimension 2350 has only PCI expansion card slots. The PCI bus is considered obsolete for video cards; current video cards are manufactured in the much faster PCI Express and AGP form factors. In addition, most the computers available at the time of Windows 7’s release had multi-core processors and 2 GB of RAM or more. Although a fully upgraded Dimension 2350 will support Windows 7, you may find that the performance does not match what a more recent computer could achieve.
