The Dell Latitude E5400, released in 2008, is still in production. The company designed the laptop for home, work or school use, at an affordable price. Depending upon the upgrades or equipment used with the Dell Latitude E5400, a new one costs between $500 and $900.
The Dell Latitude E5400 laptop uses an Intel 45 Express Chipset and an Intel 4500 MHD Graphics Accelerator video card. The optical drive features a fixed media bay, equipped with either a CD RW/DVD or a DVD+/-RW. Two options for a display monitor are available: the 14.1-inch UltraSharp WXGA+ that has a 1440 by 900 resolution, or a 14.1-inch Premium WXGA with 1280 by 800 resolution. The computer also features two speakers and a digital microphone. The power supply utilizes a 90-watt AC adapter and a 6- or 9-cell extended-life battery unit.
The laptop sports a dual-core Intel Celeron 575 processor with 2 GHz processor speed. The computer comes with 64-bit processing and the data bus speed equals 667 MHz. The 1-MB cache memory uses an L2-type system. The standard RAM is 1 GB, but up to 4 GB can be installed. The RAM system uses a DDR2 SDRAM system at 800 MHz. The RAM configuration is 1-by-1 GB. The ATA-300 hard drive holds 80 GB and runs at 5400 rpm.
Security features include steel-reinforced cable lock slots, hard-drive locks and a media-module system that helps protect transferable data. Systems-management security utilizes a Dell Client manager and DASH support. Dell provides the following user and systems security: a Wave Embassy Trust Suite, a TPM 1.2 and an optional fingerprint reader. Network security includes a 3-year subscription to Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security, WiFi-protected access with WPA, WPA2 and virtual private networks (VPN), as well as EAP and CCX compatible modes.
The Dell Latitude E5400 laptop can support a number of different Internet connection applications. A 10/100/1000-gigabit Ethernet system is standard, and an optional 56K v924 internal modem is available. The laptop also sports Dell wireless 370 Bluetooth 2.1 technology. Multiple wireless local area network (LAN) options are supported, including a Dell wireless 1397 unit, a Dell Wireless 1510 unit, an Intel WiFi Link 5100 unit and an Intel WiFi Link 5300 unit.
