Situated in the Midwest the state of Ohio offers various outdoor environments ranging from its shorelines along Lake Erie and south towards rural farmland and into the Appalachian plateaus. The capital city of Columbus boasts museums, shopping, dining and nightlife. When summer hits or you have spring or winter break under consideration and are searching for camps for the kids, various types are available. From sports to animal-themed, and religious to wilderness fun, community oriented camps are located throughout the state.

Falcon Camp

Located in the central east part of the state, the city of Carrollton is home to Falcon Camp. This camp is ideal for youths that love horses and the outdoors. This is an ACA accredited camp and intended for boys and girls ranging in ages 6-16 years. Three different programs are available: Traditional, Young Adventurers and Horse Camp. Traditional offers two to eight week periods of overnight adventures. Young Adventurers is a one-week camp intended for kids six and seven. The goal is to get them comfortable in an overnight sleep-away situation. Horse Camp is strictly for girls ages 11 to 15. Campers get to work on all aspects of their horse skills including riding skills, general animal appreciation and horse health and care. Camp activities that are offered include archery, horseback riding, sailing, canoeing, tennis and sports. Arts and crafts are also available. Kids sleep in cabins and the camper counselor ratio is 1:4 at the most.

Game Camp USA

Game Camp USA is a specialty camp catering to kids that love video games. The property is located in the center part of the state in Columbus. This camp is intended for ages 10 to 16, boys and girls. No previous gaming experience is necessary, simply a love for video games and an interest in learning more about them in a fun and educational way. Gamers not only play games constantly but also learn build them. Kids challenge one another in individual and team play and competitions take place. Competition winners receive prizes. Skills that are learned and acquired include general computer mechanics, graphics and coding into appropriate language programming. Campers can stay all day then go home or can sleep overnight. Three meals are provided.

Teen Adventures at Pleasant Hill Outdoor Center

Teen Adventures at Pleasant Hill Outdoor Center calls the city of Perrysville home. It’s located in the north central part of the state and is specifically geared towards ages 13 to 17 years. This is a week-long overnight camp that offers a variety of activities, sporting events and team-building opportunities. A Christian influence is key in the way campers are expected and encouraged to interact with one another. Youths can tackle the high ropes challenge course, take on the climbing tower, play outdoor team games or practice marksmanship. Horseback riding, mountain biking, canoeing and tubing on the lake are also offered. “Teen Horselovers Camp,” “Whitewater Adventure,” and “Teens in Leadership Training” specialty camps are also available.
