Autodesk 3D Studio Max 9 features 3D modeling capabilites.
Autodesk 3D Studio Max 9 is an advanced software program that features 3D modeling and rendering capabilities. The software is generally used by video game companies for making games as well as by Hollywood special effects studios. The flexibility of the software has also made it a popular choice among architects and studios that produce television commercials. Autodesk 3D Studio Max 9 was released in 2006 and boasts a whole range of performance features that enhance productivity and increase workflow.
Optimization for 64-Bit Hardware and Software
Autodesk 3D Studio Max 9 has full support for 64-bit hardware and operating systems, which dramatically increases the performance on these systems. A new feature called “Bitmap Proxy” will exchange high resolution images for low resolution proxies while you work, which in turn will make a big difference to the overall performance and display speed of designs.
The concept of “layers,” whereby data is stored on different layered sections for easier access, has been a staple feature in software like Adobe Photoshop and Flash, but now with Autodesk 3D Studio Max 9 it is finally available to 3D Studio users as well. With animations separated into different layers, they become easier to work with and manage as well as simpler to troubleshoot in case something goes wrong. The ability to create custom layers streamlines the work process and increases performance while working with animations.
Enhanced Character Tools
Character Studio became part of 3D Studio since version 7, but now with version 9 comes with a lot of performance-enhancing features. Animations that look a lot more natural can now be produced thanks to enhanced control, as animators can now work with fine details on models like the fingers and toes on separate tracks instead of having to animate them as a whole. A new “history” feature that allows users to retrace their steps during the work process also enhances performance.
Enhanced Hair & Cloth Features
Instead of being a separate module like it was in 3D Studio Max 8, the hair module has been made part of the main interface for 3D Studio Max 9 and thus can be edited and manipulated with the regular selection tools. This saves a lot of time and the overall quality has been improved as well. The performance of the rendering engine has also been improved and is now faster than in previous versions. Cloth tailoring allows users to edit the properties of materials like clothing on their models with minimal fuss.
New Mental Ray Engine
The “Mental Ray” rendering engine, which is responsible for rendering the images by using a ray tracing algorithm, has been updated to version 3.5 for Audotesk 3D Studio Max 9. A lot of time-saving performance features has been added with effects like ambient occlusion, which allows more for realistic lighting and reflecting on 3D Models as well as the ability to simulate rounded corners, something which is very hard to do and time consuming with standard rendering engines. The overall Mental Ray interface has also been streamlined to make it more user friendly and performance enhancing.
